Day one of our retreat saw a steady stream of quilters bringing in their “tools of the trade”, finding their classrooms and getting set up for the day’s classes.  The level of anticipation was high!  Classes taught on the first day included basic machine and quilting 101, “Just How Can I Quilt This?”, basic cutting, hand applique and zentangle.  Laughter and the steady whirl of sewing machines could be heard up and down the halls!

Yes, it is true: all fabric is not created equal. There really is a difference in fabric: the thread count, the dyes that are used, the way the fabric is produced, all affect the quality of the finished product. Frankly, you get what you pay for. The bigger box stores are going to carry cheaper, not as well-made fabric – especially in the quilting cottons.  There’s no reason why you can’t use the cheap stuff.  I personally would not invest …
